Abstract

A urine sample collection facilitator insert has a body which is secured into a standard toilet bowl 10. A front handle 12 is provided to releasably secure the insert to the front of a standard toilet bowl. Means of distancing the device from the standard toilet bowl are provided by two under-side spacers 14 and one front curved angled shield 15. A centre opening 16 is provided to allow urine to pass downwards through the under-side shaped moulding, internally threaded at the end 16. A standard medical sterile sample bottle, connected to the threaded moulding, can be used for the purpose of urine sample collection for analysis. A downward graduated back lip 18 is provided for excess drainage. After the insert has been removed from the standard toilet bowl the sterile medical sample bottle and content is unscrewed from the insert and capped to transfer for analysis.

Description

2362106 - I - URINE SAMPLE COLLECTION FACILITATOR INSERT This invention
relates to a device for the collection of urine for analysis.
Containers that allow the collection of urine, which may require sample analysis, come in varied formats, tubular, dish, bottle and kidney shaped. Transferring the collected waste and the process of the transfer from container device to sterile sample bottle of the urine for analysis can be labour intensive, susceptible to spillage, cross infection and contamination of the sample.
According to the present invention there is provided a single moulded sanitary toilet bowl insert, comprising of a front handle, which secures the device onto a standard toilet bowl rim, with internal gTaduations, leading from a front, curved angled shield, into an oval graduated base, the centre of which has an integrated, downward angled, shaped moulding, internally threaded at the end, onto which a standard sterile medical sample container fits. On the underside edges of the oval base are two spacers, which allow the device to distance itself from the bowl of the toilet. A downward back lip with graduated angle provides a facility for excess urine to drain into the toilet bowl without effecting the content of the sterile sample container attached to the device.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:- Figure I shows in perspective, the urine sample collection facilitator insert in position on a cross section of a standard toilet bowl.
Figure 2 shows the insert, angled to view the underside shaped moulding, internally threaded at the end and one of the two spacers, which allow the insert to distance itself from the bowl of the toilet.
Referring to the drawing the urine sample collection facilitator comprises of a one-piece moulded toilet bowl insert 10. Figs. I and 2.
In order to secure the moulded insert onto a standard toilet bowl the handle 12 is positioned over the front rim of the toilet bowl as illustrated in Figs I and 2. The main body of the insert 10 Figs I and 2 is distanced from the standard toilet bowl by means of two spacers 14 (one shown) Figs I and 2. The front curved angled shield 15 figs I and 2 prevents the urine from making contact with the toilet bowl. The centre opening 16 Figs. I and 2 of the dish shaped oval insert, allows the urine to enter downwards into the under-side shaped moulding, internally threaded at the end I Fig 2. A standard sterile medical sample container (not shown) is fitted onto the threaded moulding 16 Figs I and 2. The urine sample is then contained within. A downward graduated back lip 17 Figs I and 2 of the moulded insert provides a facility for excess urine drainage into the toilet bowl.
The moulded insert is then removed from the standard toilet bowl, the medical sample bottle is unscrewed from the threaded under-side moulding and is capped, ready for sample analysis.
