Abstract

The Wheelbarrow Aid is a lightweight, waterproof cover 1 which is secured over the top of a wheelbarrow by an adjustable, elasticated circumference 5 and an additional section 6 which passes over the handles of the wheelbarrow. It allows the capacity of the wheelbarrow to be increased by means of a central pleat 2, and secures the load. It has loops 4 which open and fasten to allow the handles of implements to be secured within. At each corner there is a handle 3. The front two can be grasped whilst standing at the wheelbarrow handle end to release the cover to empty the load. When not in use, the cover is rolled back and held with a fastener 7. Removed from the wheelbarrow, the cover can be inverted, items placed within, all four handles 3 gathered, and carried over the shoulder.

Description

2360495 Wheelbarrow Aid.
This invention relates to a device which enhances the use ol a wheelbarrow.
This invention can be beneficial wherever wheelbarrows are in common use, for example stable yards, gardens and for D.f.Y. The wheelbarrow'3 use can be constrained, inasmuch as that, although it con be filled to a high capacity-especially with lighter items such as soiled straw and garden debris, for example cut grass, leaves and litter-the cost of such loading is thEL a substantial amount of the conitents of the wheelbarrow nay he deposited on the ground as the barrow is pushed along,or ray be blopp-Put in windy conditioni S. This necessicates turther time consuming effort sweeping up that which has fallen.
Also, once the %arrow is full, there is no method of carrying implements secerely to help offload - other than by placing the implemencs across the handles of the barrow. This,Ihough, increases the width of the barrow, and may create difficulty accessing certain areas.
In addition once the barrow is empty,it serves no purpose, but with the wheelbarrow aid in place, not only can anything in the barrow be left inside until.it can be conveniently disposed of,or until a full load can be madejut also such items as smail implements, seed trays, flowerpots and gloves may be storeo within, protected from the elements and out or sight.
When the wheelbarrow aid is removed from the wheelbarrow, it's design allows it to be used as a form of carrier for such items as clean straw to replace soiled in stables, clean bay rations,or leaves, weeds and litter from the garden -saving further trips with the wheelbarrow. This would still leave one hand free for the carrying of implements,as the aid can be coT:ied over the shoulder.
2 Referring to the d,-<iwi.ng,and as shown in Figure I,Lhe wheelbarrow aid comprises or a lightweight, waterproof material 1, wi th a f orm of pteating 2 in the centre to allow expansion.lt has a handle3 at each corner to allow the front of the device to be pulled back to empty the barrow whilst t!,.e user remains at the wheelbarrow ha rid 1 e end. I'lie. e hand 1 es 3 al so f aci 1 i tate carrying when the wheelbar,ow aid is removed from the barrow, and is in carrying moce. The invention has loops,4 on both sides of the pl.eaing, wiiicli can be opened and closed to allow the handles of tools to be secured to the cover,j.n order to be carried.
The j. ii ven t ion has an a dj ustable, elast ica ted c! rcumf erence, 5, which secures it below the lip of the wheelbarrow-as shown in Figure 2, and is further secured by an extra loop 6 which encircles the wheelbarrow handles,'and also keeps the cover in place when not in use-see Figure 3 which also slicws the cover rolled back and held in place by mear.s of a fastener 7.
When removed f-om the wheelbarrow - Figure 4 -the wheelbarrow aid cin be inverted and spread on the groundthe elasticated circuinference5holding it in shape and open.
Whatever is to c,-irriecl can be placed in the centre, the haridle.s 3 brought together as illustrated in Fipure the d--vi.ce thrown over the shoulder, leaving one hand free for carrying tools.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example i.,.ith reference to the accompanying drawinc, in which:- Figure 1 stios,,: an aerial view of a wheelbarrow with 111 e. Wheelbarrow Aid i,i position.
Figure 2 show.,-, a lateral view.
Figure 3 show---. a rearMateral view of the Wheelbarrow Aid rolled ano fastened when not in use.
Fip-ti-e 4 sliow,. the Wheelbarrow Aid removed from the wheelbarrow, laid nn the ground and inverted, ready to be loaded for carrylag.or cleaned.
Figure5 shows the Wheelbarrow Aid filled for carrying and ready to be Pfted onto the shoulder.
