Abstract

Lengths of triangular shaped stable cushions 1 made from rubber or similar material are placed on the stable floor 10 against the four walls 19. The cushions are held in place by 45 degree angles 12 at the corners and concealed fixtures 16 at the sides of doorway 13.

Description

STABLE CUSHION This invention relates to a stable aid to help prevent horses getting cast. (Cast is the term used when a horse rolls over and stops with its hooves against the wall and close to its body and is unable to rise).
The cushion permanently replaces the bedding material which is banked up against the wall. This amounts to approximately 50% of the total bedding required.
This provides a substantial saving on labour and bedding costs.
The bedding requires regular maintenance in order to keep it banked against the wall.
Reducing the bedding required also cuts down on the amount of dust present and is more hygienic.
According to the present invention sections of triangular shaped cushion are placed against the stable walls at floor level and held in place at corners by 45 degree angles and by concealed fixings at the door sides.
The object of this invention is to provide a safer, more cost effective and hygienic environment for stabled horses.
Preferably the stable cushion should be made from rubber or similar durable material. The cushion should be versatile but firm enough to support the weight of a horse. (An average fully-grown horse weighs approximately 400-500 Kgs.) Figure 1 illustrates a section of cushion viewed from the end: wall measurement 15 approximately 40cm floor measurement 14 approximately 30cm Figure 2 illustrates a section of cushion placed in relation to wall 19 and floor 10 viewed from the end.
Figure 3 shows a top view of cushions 11 in position on the floor 10 and against the walls 19. It also shows 45 degree angled comers 12 and the approximate position of fixtures at door sides 16

Claims (4)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A stable cushion comprises of five lengths of triangula shaped material placed against the stable walls at floor level-held in place at the corners by 45degree angles cut at the ends of each length and secured at the door sides by concealed fixtures with the safety of horses in mind-e. g.: Velcro strip or magnet strip.
  2. 2. A stable cushion as claimed in claim 1 may consist of only four lengths of cushion if the stable door is situated at the side of a wall instead of the usual central position.
  3. 3. A stable cushion as claimed in claims 1 and 2 should be made from rubber, or similar durable material. The exposed sides should be of a non porous texture for hygienic reasons. The cushion should be versatile but firm enough to support the weigh of a horse.
  4. 4. A stable cushion substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1, 2 and 3.
