Description
1 - 20C 52 771 ool for Applying Liquid Matter The present invention
relates to a tool for applying liquid matter such as writing ink, liquid cosmetics, liquid paint, liquid medicine, liquid adhesive.
Some types of the tools known in the prior art are provided with valve devices D controlling the rate of supplying a coating member with liquid matter. However, it is extremely difficult to discharge the liquid matter always at a constant rate through the valve device, at every operation of the valve.
An object of the present invention is to solve such a problem while enabling a predetermined quantity of a liquid matter to be discharged at every discharging operation. Another object of the present invention is to provide a simple-construction and low-cost, novel liquid matter writing or coating tool.
According to the present invention, a tool for applying liquid matter comprises:
cylinder, liquid tank, defined within said cylinder, writing or a coating member, mounted at a front end of the liquid tank, a valve device located between said liquid tank and said writing or coating member, a piston plate mounted in the liquid tank in a water-tight manner and slidable in the axial direction to pressurize liquid in the tank but unable-to rotate about the axis, a threaded piston rod extending backwards from said piston plate, a cam body rotatably mounted on the threads of said piston rod, said cam body being provided with a cam groove having ridges or valleys regularly spaced in the circumferential direction, and a push member including a cam follower which engages with said cam groove, said push member being non-rotatable about the axis of the cylinder but movable in the axial direction to cause said cam body to rotate and thereby said piston rod and plate to advance.
One embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings of which.
Fig. 1 shows a centre section view of a marking pen according to the present invention; Fig. 2 is an oblique view of a push member of a marking pen based on Fig. 1; Fig. 3 shows a section view on the line III 111 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 shows a partial exploded plan view of the marking pen shown in Fig. 1; and Fig. 5 is a section view along line V - V of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, there is an axial cylinder 6 which also functions as an ink tank. This axial cylinder 6 is provided with a protruding cylinder 1 of smaller diameter at its front end.
Threads 3 are formed on the outer surface of. the smaller cylinder portion 1, on which a front sleeve 15 is screwed. In the front sleeve 15, there is a coating member 13 having a protruding flangeshaped base 14. The flange-shaped base 14 is sandwiched between an inner step portion of the front sleeve 15 and a guide ring 12 mounted at the top of the small diameter cylinder portion 1. The coating member 13 protrudes partially out of the front sleeve 15.
The small diameter cylinder portion 1 communicates with the axial cylinder 6. A valve device mounted at a valve seat 4 formed at the adjacent openings of the cylinders is provided in the small diameter cylinder portion 1. This valve device comprises 1 3 - a valve rod 9 having a tapered flange 8 to be seated on said valve seat 4, a coil spring 10 to cushion the rear end to the flange 8 of said valve rod 9 and a guide ring 12 bearing the front end of the coil spring 10 on its rear end surface. Said guide ring 12 is fixed in the front end of the small diameter cylinder portion 1 and provided with a central communication hole 11 in which the front end of the valve rod 9 is inserted.
The inner surface of the a-ial cylinder 6 is Provided with four grooves 5 of predetermined length extending from the rear end in the axial direction, and spaced in the circumferential direction at equal angular intervals.
A circular spring seat 17 is fixed in axial cylinder 6. The spring seat 17 is provided with a center hole 29 in which there are two centrally protruding projections 16.
An ink tank 7 is located on the front side of this spring seat 17.
A piston plate 19 is mounted in the ink tank - 7 to be movable in the axial direction. An 0-ring is fitted on the outer periphery of piston plate 19, in order to seal a gap to the inner wall of the ink tank 7. Ink is stored on the front side of the piston plate 19.
A piston rod 18 extends from the centre of the piston plate 19 back through the centre hole 29 of the spring seat 17.
Threads 21 are formed on the outer Periphery of the piston rod 18. At a part of the outer periphery of the piston rod 18, a groove 22 is provided at a position corresponding to each of said projections 16, and rotation of the piston rod 18 is thereby prevented as the grooves 22 engage with projections 16 of said spring seat 17 (see Fig. 5).
A cylindrical.cam body 26 is rotatably screwed - 4 on threads 21 of the piston rod 18. On the outer periphery of said cam body 26, there is a cam groove portion 25 in sawtooth form having repeated ridges and valleys at regular spacing in the circumferential direction (see Fig. 4).
On the outside of the piston rod 18, a push member 32 is inserted. The push member 32 comprises a cylindrical body 30 and a cylindrical base Portion 28 located at the rear part and encircling at a constant gap the cylindrical body 30. The cylindrical body 30 is connected to the base portion 28 at the rear end. On the outer surface of the base portion 28, there are four axial projections 27 at locations corresponding to the grooves 5 provided in said axial cylinder 6. The number of said grooves 5 and projections 27 may be more or less than 4.
At the front end of main body 30 of the push member 32, there is a cam follower 31 having two inwardly protruding projections at diametrically opposite locations (see Fig. 2).
The push member 32 is inserted from the rear opening of the axial cylinder 6 so that the piston rod 18 engages with the centre hole 29 of the main body 30, with projections 27 engaging in the grooves 5 and projections of the cam follower 31 engaging in the cam groove 25 after assembly. A push spring 33 is inserted, for pushing backwardly the push member 32, between the spring seat 17 and the push member 32. 30 Each member constituting said marking pen may be composed of, for example, synthetic r6sin as known in the prior art. When the push member 32 is pushed forwards by a push operation against the push spring 33, projections on the cam follower 31 at the front end butt the wall of a groove inclined in the axial direction of the cam groove 25 of the cam body 26, thus rotating the cam body 26. Since the spacing in the circumferential direction of the ridges or valleys in the cam groove 25 of the cam body 26 is constant, the cam body 26 is rotated by a predetermined angle corresponding to one push operation. While the cam body 26 rotates by a predetermined angle, the piston rod 18 engaged with this cam body 26 is not rotatable but advances by a predetermined distance. As the piston rod 18 is advanced, the piston plate 19 is moved forward, of course, in the ink tank 7 by the same distance. Ink stored in the tank 7 is pressurized as the piston plate 19 is advanced, so pushes the valve rod 9 forwards, whereby the valve seat 4 is opened, allowing a predetermined quantity of ink ta-pass through the valve and be supplied to the coating member 13. When a predetermined quantity of ink has been discharged from the valve, Dressure in the ink tank 7 decreases, thus again closing the valve seat 4 by means of a valve spring 10. When pushing pressure applied to the push member 32 is released, the push member 32 is pushed back by the push spring 33 to its original state.
