Abstract

This invention relates to a wrist support and traction device for use in arthroscopic or orthopaedic surgery. The device comprises a rest (12) for holding the forearm, a connection means (22) for holding the fingers, and an extensible member (14) pivotally connected between the rest and the connection means. A substantially constant tractive force is applied to the wrist by means of a controlled extensive force applied to the extensible member (14). The device is constructed such that its components do not necessarily pivot about an axis which is coincident with any given virtual pivot axis of the wrist. <IMAGE>
