Abstract

228,002. Pay, A., and MacMay, J. A. Jan. 21, 1924. Locking nuts. - A two-part self-locking nut of the type in which one part is composed of hard, and the other of soft material, comprises a screwed hard-metal portion 1, composed say of steel or brass, and an unscrewed soft-metal portion 2, of lead and tin alloyed in equal parts, or of Babbitt-metal. The part 2 is bored to a diameter about equal to the minimum diameter of the bolt threads. Radial holes 3, or longitudinal grooves, are provided in the part 1, to prevent the soft metal from becoming loose. When the nut is applied to a bolt, the threads of the bolt cut their way into the soft metal.
