Abstract
225,246. Tecalemit, Ltd. Nov. 23, 1923, [Convention date]. Gaiters for springs comprise a helically disposed strip or band of flexible metal such as aluminium having reversely formed interengaging flanges along its edges with an interposed packing of elastic material, the part of the band between said edges being sufficiently flexible to allow deflection of the assembled gaiter without substantial movement of the interengaging edges. Various forms of interengaging edges with packing interposed are described. As shown in Fig. 3, the edges of the strip a are turned over at a<1> and a plastic cord packing c is provided. The helical winding is preferably commenced at the tip of the spring, the finishing end of the winding being secured by a metal strip such as d, Fig. 7, which is bent around the end of the winding and fastened by passing the tongue d<2> through the slot d<1> and then bending back the tongue.
