Description
SPECIFICATION
Brake hose line
This invention relates to a brake hose line, in particular for an automotive vehicle, of the kind comprising a brake hose with at least one end fitting designed at an end, and a sleeve secured to the peripheral surface of the brake hose line.
In a known brake hose line (German printed and published patent application 28 20 261), the sleeve is vulcanised onto the brake hose line integrally designed therewith. Such a method entails extremely intricate and costly work.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a sleeve for a brake hose line which affords ease of manufacture at low cost, which allows it to be secured onto the brake hose line by simple means and which, in addition, provides the brake hose with directional stability and burst-resistance.
According to the invention in its broadest aspect, a brake hose line of the kind referred to is characterised in that the sleeve is made of plastics material and contains at least one axially extending separating line whose contact surfaces will be interconnected by fusion or by positive engagement after the sleeve has been mounted onto the brake hose line. This allows the sleeve to be manufactured in a separate moulding tool in a simple and economical fashion prior to its assembly on the brake hose line. Likewise the subsequent assembly will be accomplished by simply seating the sleeve on the brake hose line and by subsequently bonding or welding its separating lines.Owing to the sleeve, the brake hose of the brake hose line will thus be given directional stability and it will be rendered more burst-resistant and insusceptible to abrasion effects, whereby also the life of the brake hose line will be prolonged.
It will be advantageous if the sleeve is composed of two half shells. This affords further simplification of the mounting of the sleeve on the brake hose line. To prevent the sleeve from sliding to and fro on the brake hose line, at the end of the end fitting which embraces the brake hose, there are preferably designed axial or circumferential depressions spread over the circumference engaging into which are the projections which are correspondingly designed at the sleeve.
To obtain a sleeve design which is particularly resistant to bending and economical in respect of material, weight and costs, diametrally opposite reinforcing ribs may extend at the circumference along the sleeve.
The bonding or welding surfaces will be particularly large, if the separating line extends through the longitudinal axis of a reinforcing rib. This enables particularly high tractive and pressure forces, respectively to be transmitted at the junction.
In order not to provide the brake hose with too high an amount of bending resistance in the area of the sleeve, the internal diameter of the sleeve may correspond substantially to the external diameter of the portion of the end fitting which embraces the brake hose, and extensions may project from the inner peripheral surface of the sleeve which abut on the peripheral surface of the brake hose. An optimum of elasticity of the brake hose at the transition to the end fitting will be attained if the elevations are designed at the end of the sleeve. A particularly steady abutment of the sleeve on the brake hose will be ensured if the extensions form an annular collar.
The sleeve will be easily deformable particularly elastically but, nevertheless, will impart sufficient rigidity to the brake hose, if the sleeve is composed of a tubular main body and if it contains at its outer peripheral surface several concentric discs which extend at a small distance one from the other, and which are additionally interconnected by cross webs which are shaped at the outer peripheral surface of the main body and offset one in respect of the other over the circumference.
The risk of fracture of the brake hose line will likewise be avoided if the sleeve is pressed onto the brake hose in a torsionally secured and axially unslidable manner and penetrates at least partially through an opening of a sheet that is secured to the vehicle, through an opening and is secured to the sheet. This ensures well-defined guiding of the brake hose line thereby preventing it from striking against parts of the vehicle body by the action of shocks, which is not desired.
Prior to being welded, the two sleeve shells are pressed onto the brake hose with preload.
A reliable and proper intermediate securement of the brake hose will be obtained if the sleeve comprises a portion corresponding to the thickness of the sheet and whose diameter is equal to or less than the diameter of the opening of the sheet, and in that, beneath and above the portion, means which project beyond the diameter of the opening are provided for clamping the sleeve.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a partial longitudinal crosssection taken through a brake hose line in the area of an end fitting,
Figure 2 is a longitudinal cross-section normal to the longitudinal axis of the brake hose line taken along line I-I in Fig. 1,
Figure 3 is a partial view of another embodiment of a brake hose line in the area of an end fitting,
Figure 4 is a longitudinal cross-section transversely relative to the longitudinal axis of the brake hose line taken along line Ill-Ill according to Fig. 3,
Figure 5 is a partial longitudinal crosssection of another embodiment of a brake hose line, wherein the brake hose is retained stationary by means of a sleeve fixed to the vehicle, and
Figure 6 is a longitudinal cross-section transversely relative to the longitudinal axis of the brake hose line taken along line V-V in
Fig. 5.
Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing show a brake hose line 1 which is composed of 3 brake hose 2 and an end fitting 3. Designed at the open end of the end fitting 3 is a threaded bore 4 having a sealing surface 5 which latter serves to receive a pressure connection pipe not shown in the drawing. Approximately in the middle of the end fitting, there is designed on its peripheral surface 6 a hexagon 7 which usually serves for counterholding when screwing in the pressure connection pipe. The portion 8 of the end fitting 3 which encloses the brake hose 2 is of substantially cylindrical design. Shaped at the peripheral surface 9 of the portion 8 and spread evenly over the circumference are depressions 10 which indent into the brake hose 2 and thus provide a positive and air-tight engagement between the brake hose and the end fitting 3.
The inner peripheral surface 11 of the sleeve 1 2 bears against the peripheral surface 9. In the area of the depressions 10, the sleeve comprises correspondingly designed projections 13 so that the sleeve 12 is rigidly coupled to the brake hose line 1. The end fitting 3, the brake hose 2 and the sleeve 12 extend concentrically relative to one another.
A cylindrical free space 14 is constituted between the brake hose 2 and the sleeve 12 by the fact that the internal diameter of the sleeve 12 corresponds substantially to the external diameter of the portion 8 of the end fitting 3, the said portion embracing the brake hose 2. Designed at the radially inner peripheral surface 11 of the end of the sleeve 12 is an annular collar 15 directed to the peripheral surface of the brake hose 2 and abutting thereon, the annular collar being part of Fig.
3, but not illustrated in the drawing.
According to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, there are shaped at the outer peripheral surface 16 diametrally opposite reinforcing ribs 17 which extend along the sleeve 12. Designed at the end of the sleeve 12 which embraces the end fitting 3 is an annular collar 18 succeeding which are the reinforcing ribs 17. The external diameter of the annular collar 18 corresponds to the external diameter of the reinforcing ribs 17. According to Fig. 2 of the drawing, the sleeve 12 is composed of two half shells 19, 20 which are interconnected by fusion at their contact surfaces 21, 22 by a welding joint 23 which is produced by ultrasonic welding, for instance.
In Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawing, the sleeve 12 comprises the tubular main body 24, at whose outer peripheral surface 16 several concentric discs 25 are formed which extend in parallel and at a small distance one from the other. The discs 25 are interconnected by cross webs 26 disposed in a manner offset over the circumference of the main body 24.
In Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawing, the sleeve 12 is pressed onto the brake hose 2 of the brake hose line 1 in a torsionally secured and axially unslidable fashion. Diametrally opposite reinforcing ribs 1 7 extend on the radially outer peripheral surface 16 along the sleeve 12. Also in this arrangement, the sleeve 12 is composed of two half shells 19, 20 which are interconnected by fusion at their contact surfaces 21, 22 by means of a welding joint 23.
The sleeve 12 penetrates an opening 27 of the sheet 28 that is fixed to a vehicle and abuts with an annular collar 29 on the sheet 28. The portion 30 penetrating the opening 27 has a diameter slightly smaller than that of the opening 27. According to Fig. 5 of the drawing, a groove 31 is designed above the portion 30 extending into which groove is a resilient plate 32 that is supported on the sheet 28. This provides for connection of the brake hose 2 through the sleeve 12 with a sheet 28 of a vehicle, not shown.
