Abstract

A foldable support for preventing the displacement of rolling bodies, in particular wheels of vehicles has a ground-engaging intermediate plate element (1), a wheel-engaging plate element (4) and a supporting element (5) for supporting in use the bearing flat element (4) in a position in which it slopes toward the intermediate element (1) at an acute angle. The elements (4, 5) are articulated to the ground-engaging element (1). e.g. by simple hinges (2, 3). In the erected state of the device the free end of the supporting element (5) engages the curved end (6) of element (4) to form a releasable locking means to assure the supporting element (5) against displacement. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Foldable support for preventing the displacement of rolling bodies, in particular wheels of vehicles The invention relates to a support, by the aid of which displacement of rolling bodies, in particular wheels of vehicles can be prevented and when out of use, storage of the support requires a small volume only.
In general, for preventing the displacement of bodies capable of rolling or displacing under the influence of force a suitable object (chock) is placed on both sides of the body in direction of the possible rolling motion. The most characteristic embodiment is a V-shaped support used to the wheels of vehicles.
Generally these supports are made of wood, metal or a synthetic material.
The most frequently objection raised against known supports is that they are relatively large and heavy. This disadvantage prevails mainly with passenger cars, having a rather small package space, so passenger cars used not to be provided with these supports, although, even in course of the most commonplace activity, when changing the wheels, wedging of the vehicle wheels is most recommendable.
The aim of our invention is to develop a support, which can be easily transported and stored, however, which prevents successfully the displacement of vehicle wheels and other bodies.
The invention is based on the recognition, in so far as from some flat elements a proper wedge can be assembled, which-when placed onto each other-occupy a small space only.
Accordingly, the invention relates to a foldable support for wheels, having an intermediary flat element, a bearing flat element having been fixed so as being rotatable around an axis each and a supporting flat element; the bearing flat element slopes to the intermediary flat element at an acute angle being expediently less than 45" and is bearing up against the edge of the supporting flat element; a releasable locking element is also contained which ensures the supporting flat element against displacement.
With a preferred embodiment of the invention the two axes of rotation are running parallel with each other.
Another preferred embodiment of the invention is formed so, that the supporting flat element is shorter than the other two flat elements.
Lastly, the solution can be considered as a preferred embodiment of the support according to the invention, with which the supporting flat element and the bearing flat element-when seen from the intermediary flat element-enclose an angle of 90" or less, while at the end of the bearing flat elementlying opposite to the axis of rotation-a flange sloping to the intermediary flat element is formed and the edge of the supporting flat element is bearing up against the curvature of the flange.
The support according to the invention will be described by means of a preferred embodiment serving as an example, by the aid of the drawing enclosed, wherein Figure 1 is the sideview of the support according to the invention, Figure 2 the top view and Figure 3 the sideview of the support in a folded state.
The support to be seen in Fig. 1 and 2 has an intermediary flat element 1 having been cut and pressed from steel sheet. On both ends a hinged part each is formed, to the axes 2 and 3 thereof partly a bearing flat element 4, partly a supporting flat element 5 is connected with an hingelike shaped part.
On the end of the bearing flat element 4 lying opposite to the axis 3 a flange 6 is sloping to the intermediate flat element 1. The bearing flat element 4 is bearing up against the edge of the supporting element 5 by said flange 4, respectively the bend lying next thereto.
In consideration that said supports can be considered as absolutely safe, if they are wedged between the roadsurface and the wheel of the vehicle, the angle rj enclosed by the intermediary flat element 1 and the bearing flat element 4 is chosen expediently as an acute angle, being advantageously less, than 45 .
As it becomes obvious from Fig. 1, the edge of the supporting flat element is quasi adapting itself to the bend next to the flange 6. This measure is imperative for preventing the displacement of the supporting flat element 5 either in direction of the axis 3, or in the opposite direction. This stable position can be guaranteed so, that the value of the angle ss enclosed by the supporting flat element 5 and the bearing flat element 4 is chosen for 90" or less.
After having chosen the angles, the mutual ratio of the single flat elements is given. The use of the specified support is obvious. The support is placed on the soil according to the position in Fig. 1, thereafter it is pushed below the wheel. The support hinders the motion of the wheel 7.
If the support is not needed, the flat elements can be folded on each other around the axes 2 and 3.
In such a manner we obtain the little package as to be seen in Fig. 3.
The support may be formed differently, differing from the embodiment according to the figure. So e.g. the supporting element may be arranged normal to the axis of the bearing flat element and the intermediary flat element.
The flat elements of the support according to Fig. 1 are simple plates. If a support of higher strength is needed, the plates can be reinforced with ribs.
For the sake of order it should be mentioned, that neither the bearing nor the intermediary element has a preferred position, accordingly the support can be placed below the wheel so, that the bearing flat element is lying on the soil.
