Abstract

217,678. Smith, R. A. March 29, 1923. Thrashing-machines.-A machine for removing palm nuts &c. from the stems comprising rotary drums 1, 2 arranged to form a trough in which the bunches are rotated, has one or more, of the rollers mounted on a pivoted frame 15 that is moved periodically to separate the rollers and allow the stems &c. to escape. The timing gear comprises a notched disc 22 driven at variable speed by a worm gear 21, a bell-crank lever 26 being moved by a spring 24 when a block 23 attached thereto enters the notch 34, and bringing a clutch 29, 32 into operation connecting the crank-shaft 19 to the driving belt 33. The movement of the bell-crank lever 26 also raises a bolt 35 that normally locks the disc 36 and shaft 19. The shaft makes one revolution oscillating the frame 15 through a connecting-rod 17. The shaft 19 is connected through mutilated gear 29 to a shaft 30 that operates a feed barrel 42 in a hopper 43. Beneath the drums 1, 2 is a conveyer belt 44 or shoot 45 to receive the material discharged. According to the Provisional Specification the disconnection of the clutch 29, 32 is effected when the lock 35 re-enters the notch in the disc 36.
