Abstract

The invention provides a lavatory (10) in which the seat (11) slopes from the front downwardly towards the back. The seat (11) has sides (12) which slope upwardly and towards each other. The means to flush the lavatory is operated by depressing a foot pedal. Also means are provided to direct fresh water, preferably through a tube (13), upwards from the bowl to wash the buttocks and anal opening of the person using the lavatory. This second means is also operated by depressing a foot pedal. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Lavatory This invention concerns a lavatory.
The common form of lavatory in use today has a horizontal seat set at a relatively high level. This has the disadvantage of not allowing the body to assume the physiological correct position for defecation, the correct position being a squatting position with the knees up against the chest.
The invention therefore provides a lavatory in which the seat slopes from the front down towards the back. This allows a person using the lavatory to assume the proper position with the feet positioned on the floor and the legs bent so that the knees are positioned close to the chest.
The sides of the seat may slope up and towards each other. This feature causes the buttocks to be moved away from each other and clear of the anus so that faeces are not caught on the buttocks which might otherwise cause irritations or infections.
Means may be provided to flush the lavatory by depressing a foot pedal. By avoiding the use of hand operated mechanisms to flush the lavatory, the risk of infection is reduced.
Means may be provided to direct fresh water upwards from the bowl of the lavatory to wash the buttocks and anal opening of the person using the lavatory by depressing a foot pedal. This feature allows the person using the lavatory to be cleaned without the hands approaching the buttocks when the latter may be dirty. This reduces the risk of infection spreading from the hands to other people and reduces the chances of the buttocks being infected or irritated.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, of which Figure lisa side view of a lavatory; and Figure 2 is a section on the line II - II of the seat of the lavatory shown in Figure 1.
The lavatory 10 shown in Figure 1 has a seat 11 which slopes downwardly from the front to the back.
This allows the person using the lavatory to adopt the physiologically more correct position with knees towards the chest.
The seat 11 is shown in section in Figure 2, the sides 12 sloping upwardly and towards each other causing the buttocks of the person using the lavatory to be moved away from each other.
The lavatory 10 shown in Figure 1 also includes a tube 13 or plurality of tubes projecting upwardly from the bowl. The tube 13 is connected to a supply of fresh water and means to cause water to be directed out of the tube so that the water contacts and washes the buttocks and anal opening of the person using the lavatory. The means is preferably operated by a foot pedal. Also the means to flush the lavatory is preferably operated by a foot pedal.
1. A lavatory in which the seat slopes from the front down towards the back.
2. A lavatory as claimed in claim 1 in which the sides of the seat slope up and towards each other.
3. A lavatory as claimed in claim 1 or 2 in which means are provided to flush the lavatory by depressing a foot pedal.
4. A lavatory as claimed in any preceding claim in which means are provided to direct fresh water upwards from the bowl of the lavatory to wash the buttocks and anal opening of the person using the lavatory by depressing a foot pedal.
5. A lavatory substantially as herein described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
