Abstract
A device for forming with a consumable (graphite) electrode member a composite arc furnace electrode comprising a metal body 12' in which is defined an annular coolant passage between walls 22', 24' and a central coolant pipe 37' communicating with the lower end of the annular passage, wherein the double frusto-conical threaded nipple 59' which joins the consumable electrode member to the lower end of the metal body 12' is metallic (copper or steel) and hollow and the pipe 37' enters the cavity 65 in the nipple through its open end 66 so that the joint region of the composite electrode is cooled. <IMAGE>
