Abstract

A carriage 20 is supported on a track 13 by balls 22 rotatably mounted in part-spherical bearings 23 in the carriage and arranged to roll along the track. The carriage consists of a metal block 21 having part-spherical recesses fitted with shell bearings for the balls. In one embodiment four carriages are mounted on two parallel tracks of a network of intersecting tracks for the transport of a crate or other bulk load supported on the carriages. The tracks are of channel shaped section, the balls on the carriages running on the bottom of the channels and the sides and ends of the carriages being provided with additional balls arranged to run along the side walls of the tracks. Each carriage when at a point of intersection of two tracks can move along either track. Each track is formed of separate lengths placed end to end on the ground as required to form the track. In another embodiment a vehicle body is supported by spring suspensions on several carriages mounted on two parallel rails, the carriages having flanges which extend downwards alongside the rails to keep the carriage on the rails. <IMAGE>
