Abstract

A baling press has a press plate (17) movable up and down in a container (10) in relation to a base plate for compacting paper waste for baling. The press plate is moved down by hydraulic cylinders (16) to compress waste in the container and is then moved up again when a given maximum pressing force is achieved. A device in the press stops the press plate in its lower position when it reaches a given position corresponding to a required bale size at the same time that the pressing force is at its maximum. The said device may comprise a switch (30) acted on by a cam (28) adjustably positioned on a guide (18) movable with the press plate (17). The press plate (17) and its hydraulic cylinders (16) are mounted on a carriage (13) movable to a position clear of the container. <IMAGE>
