Abstract
Apparatus for separating substances from fluids, e.g. dust from atmospheric air, comprises a plurality of self supporting, moisture resistant, box shaped filter elements 5 which are inserted drawer like on slides 11 into the housing 1. The elements are preferably formed from a foam structured porous material produced by sintering, eg polyethylene. Stiffeners 13 can be provided within the elements, or the walls of the elements can be corrugated to provide stiffening. Filtrate leaves the elements through openings 8 in the tops of the elements. The elements may be cleaned by being shaken by a mechanism 23 or by blowing clean air downwardly towards discharge well 4. <IMAGE>
