Abstract

In a pneumatic tyre for winter or snow driving, the tread has relief elements 10 provided with numerous slots 11 arranged close together which divides the relief elements into blades 12. These slots, which when the relief element is not subjected to a load, have their walls 13, 13' spaced apart, are inclined at an angle of not more than 45 DEG relative to the normal to the thread surface. The slots, which may be of varying depths h, may include some inclined, as illustrated, to assist acceleration, some inclined oppositely to assist braking and some inclined towards the outboard edge of the tyre. <IMAGE>
