Abstract

The present specification describes and claims a gripper assembly for use in gripping a pipeline or cable. The assembly comprises a pair of arms (1,2) attached to each other at a pivot point (3), pipe engaging members (11, 12, 17, 18) being mounted one on each arm (1,2) and one (13) fixed with respect to the pivot point (3). Means (14,15) are provided for pivoting the arms with respect to each other, such action causing the pipe engaging members (11,12,13,17,18) to move either away from or towards the pipeline. Due to a linkage (5,8) which supports arms (1,2) and pivot point 3, an opening movement causes both the arms and the pivot point (3) to move away from the pipeline. Thus all of the pipe engaging members, including pipe engaging member (13), move away from the pipeline. <IMAGE>
