Abstract
A method forming an article from aluminium alloy sheet of the 2xxx or the 6xxx series which is in a T4 or T4P temper by shaping the sheet and then heat treating localised areas of the shaped sheet to temper these areas. Shaping can be by cutting, bending, deep drawing and/or stamping. Heating can be by using contact heaters, infrared radiators or eddy currents and heats the localised areas to a temperature in the range of 150-300 0C. The article can be cleaned after its localised heat treatment. The article could be a vehicle grab handle bracket.
