Abstract

A filter system for cigarettes, giving controlled draw and dilution characteristics, comprises an outer body or wrapper (13) and an axial filter element (12) contained therein, with a cross- sectional area less than, notably from 30 to 90% of, that of the cigarette. Matching of the filter density to the size of the axial orifice and the size and arrangement of the air vents (17) gives the desired dilution and resistance to draw. <IMAGE>
