Abstract
A Led lighting system comprises LEDs 111,112, an electronic driver 13 and an emergency socket 14 that is directly connected to the LEDs, bypassing driver 13 and allows the LEDs to be driven by an external emergency power supply in the event of a power cut. The emergency supply comprises batteries 22 and a circuit 21 that detects a power cut and drives the LEDs using the battery as a source. The battery can be rechargeable and the emergency pack can contain a battery management circuit to control its charge and discharge and an LED to indicate the battery status. The status indicator LED 112 can be fixed to the lighting system and a circuit board 11 and driven through the socket 14. By the addition of a plugged-in emergency module a lighting system that runs on mains voltage can be converted to an emergency LED lighting system.
