Abstract

201,216. Squire, J. G. April 21, 1922. Charges, agitating.-In a two part rabble or rake for a mechanical calcining furnace the lower part of the holder, to which the scraper proper is secured, is in the form of a plate or blade e, Figs. 1<b> and 1<c> set at an angle to the upper part of the holder corresponding with the angle of the scraper. A number of constructions are described, which differ mainly in the means for securing the two parts of the rabble together. In the form shown in Figs. 1<b> and 1<c> the blade portion e of the holder f, and the scraper d, have rearwardly projecting lugs g, h, through which passes a bolt p held in position by a cotter pin k. In other constructions the blade is held in its sockets by pins, keys, and locking-plates, or the socket may be undercut to receive a complementary projection on the blade, the two parts being held in engagement by a wedge or key. In another form, Fig. 6<b>, the scraper d slides into a groove p<3> in the blade portion h<3> and is held against an end stop by a pin. In the construction shown in Fig. 11<b> in which the rabble is hollow for the supply of hot air &c. to the ore, the lower part of the tubular holder consists of an horizontal plate f<2> with inturned edges forming grooves for the reception of corresponding ribs p<2> on the scraper; and in the construction of Figs. 12<b> and 12<c> the blade e depending from the tubular holder f has an outstanding rib p<4> for engagement with a corresponding groove, in the scraper, the two parts being locked together by inclined keys p. The scraper may be made of silicon iron, slag, pottery, stoneware, or other refractory material, and may be reinforced by expanded metal &c. When partly worn a scraper can be reversed by transferring it to a holder with its plate or blade set at the reverse angle.
