Abstract

A portable heater 10 comprises a body 16 within which is located a heating element (60a, 60b fig.2). The heater has a first power input (not shown), such as a 12 volt car cigarette lighter socket, and a second power input 44 such as a mains power connector, both of which can provide power to the heating element (s) (60a, 60b, fig.2). The heater 10 is configured so that when power is supplied by one power input, the other power input cannot be used. Preferably the second power input is inaccessible when the first input is being used. Two heating elements (60a, 60b, fi.g2) may be provided, one being powered by the first power input and one being powered by the second power input. One or several containers 58, (104, fig.5) may be provided for heating by the elements, and the product may be epilatory wax. Preferably, a docking unit 12 is provided, and at least one power source is connected to the element (60a, 60b, fig.2) via the docking unit 12.
