Abstract

A method of authenticating and authorising electronic vouchers which comprises registering a telephone number with a host system, providing a cash value voucher comprising an alphanumeric string and a cash value, dialling a computer telephony integrated system from the registered telephone number and entering the alphanumeric string to obtain a concatenated string. Line identity may be detected using caller id or may be prompted by an interactive voice system when the caller id number is not recognized. The concatenated string comprises the voucher number, and a registered telephone number which is passed to the host system. The host system validates the voucher by determining whether the voucher number is valid and whether it has been used before. If the voucher is valid, the host system generates a redemption message authorising the use of the voucher or indicates an invalid redemption. The system may then instruct the redeemer to enter another voucher number such that multiple vouchers may be redeemed within a single call. The method is for â paid forâ or â free-to-consumerâ schemes and is intended to reduce costs associated with maintaining sophisticated point of sale (POS) terminal systems.
