Abstract

There is disclosed a device for enabling the administration and/or removal of fluids comprising a fenestrated catheter 14 and a subcutaneously implantable port 12 in fluid communication with the fenestrated catheter, wherein the port has a compressed state for insertion through the skin (see figure 5), and an uncompressed state. The port may have a resilient expansion member 16, made of an elastic metal or polymer, which forces the port from the compressed to the expanded state, once it has been implanted. The port may have a self-sealing element and an opposing puncture resistant element. The fenestrations in the catheter may be along the whole length of the tube. The port may have a deltoid shape having a plane of symmetry 15 in the compressed or uncompressed state. Also provided is a set comprising the device and a delivery catheter for implanting the device; and a method of implanting the device and administering fluid to the body using the device.
