Abstract

A practice (Fig. 1) or fragmentation projectile (Fig. 4) comprises a body 2, Fig. 1, of brittle material which abruptly disintegrates at a predetermined mechanical load. The material is pre-stressed glass or ceramics but contains heavy metal particles 18, Fig. 4, when the projectile is used as a fragmentation projectile. The mechanical load, in the case of a practice projectile is applied by a plug 10 on impact, but for a fragmentation projectile a proximity or time fuze 20 causes a plug 26 to be driven rearwardly. <IMAGE>
