Abstract

Styrene polymers having improved heat properties are prepared by copolymerising styrene with a compound having an N-substituted imide group, in particular a bis-maleimide or a mono-maleimide, to produces copolymer containing 0.1 to 20% by weight of units derived from the said compound, the said units being distributed between units derived from styrene. The imide is gradually incorporated into the polymerisation medium as the styrene polymerises, the polymerisation preferably being carried out in solution, emulsion or suspension.
