Abstract

A wooden insert 101 is arranged to contact the beverage within a container such as a bottle 100 and may be infused with a flavour to impart to the beverage. The insert 101 may be secured to a stopper or closure 102 or suspended from the closure (fig. 2), inserted through a hole (310 fig. 3) in the side of the bottle or secured to a removable base (506 fig 5). The wood may be charred or scorched to form a layer of carbon which may act as a filter. The wood may be a portion of a stave from a cask. The surface area of the insert may be selected in relation to the volume of beverage within the container. The inert may be used with whisky, vodka, rum or wine.
