Abstract

A rise and recline chair 10 sits on a base frame 16 which remains generally stationary with respect to the floor when the chair 10 is being adjusted between a reclined position and a risen position from which a person may more easily stand. The base frame 16 includes a front support bar 18 and a rear support bar 20 with joining support bars 22 extending therebetween. The chair 10 is provided with a safety barrier 24 which is exposed when the chair 10 is tilted forward in the risen position or is in a reclined position. The safety barrier 24 comprises fabric covered solid side barriers 26a, 26b, a fabric covered solid or fabric front barrier 28 and a fabric rear barrier 30.
