Abstract

Musical instrument has a keyboard with front 16 and rear 17 rows of keys corresponding to whole-tone scales a semitone apart. The rear keys are symmetrically staggered between the front keys. The first and third front row keys in each octave G, A, B, S, T, F, are distinguished from the remainder by their colour. Free reed instruments, such as a mouth organ, having a series of reeds producing whole-tone scales a semitone apart when blown and sucked respectively or when blown or sucked with a slide operated end not operated respectively are referred to together with xylophone type instruments with tone producing elements arranged in the same way as the keyboard above. Musical notation for use with these instruments comprises a stave 13 with pairs of lines, the space between adjacent pairs being double the space between the lines of a pair. The notation includes note-heads 11, 12 positioned as shown in relation to the stave lines, the note heads corresponding to the two key rows being of different colours. <IMAGE>
