Abstract
An apparatus for classifying particulate material, especially reactive powder metals, is of the type in which size classification is achieved by impinging a downwardly falling scream of particulate material with a high velocity horizontal stream of gas from a nozzle 24 and includes a closed duct system (12, 42) for continuously circulating an inert gas through the apparatus. The gas is circulated by a blower 48 and its flow is controlled by baffles 38, 40 and 67, the baffle 67 controlling the proportion of the gas flowing through a duct 60 which by- passes the housing 12. Each of the receptacles 70 for the particulate material is provided with a screen 74 at its outlet end. <IMAGE>
