Abstract

In an animal trap, the bait is used to hold the trap in the set position, so removal of the bait must cause springing of the trap, however carefully the bait is removed. The bait may be used to hold a spring-loaded jaw in the set position, and the bait may be loaded in tension or compression. In the illustrated embodiment the bait 24 is placed over a lug 42 and the end 37 of metal strip 35 which holds the jaw 34 set, breaking of the bait allowing the end 33 of the trap base to drop thereby releasing the jaw. <IMAGE>
