Abstract
A fluidized bed combustor for burning coal particles to provide combustion gases to drive a gas turbine comprises a housing 1 having a horizontally disposed cylindrical portion 2 and a configurated outlet and inlet portion 3. A perforated cylindrical wall 4 and a cylindrical grid 10 are co-axially arranged within the housing. The grid 10 is spaced inwardly of the wall 4 and both are mounted on a shaft 6 for rotation by a motor 8. Fluidized bed material is formed as a layer on the inner surface of the wall 4 upon rotation of the latter and air is fed through the portion 3 to the bed via the wall 4. Fuel which may be coal is fed to the fluidized bed via an inlet pipe 12 and combustion gases pass through the outlet in portion 3 via the grid 10 which removes solid particles therefrom. Ash is removed from the bed by an outlet 16 which discharges into a receptacle 21. The combustion gases are also ballistically filtered before leaving the combustor. <IMAGE>
