Abstract

The invention concerns a process for shutting of water in wells by the injection of polyacrylamide (PAA). The PAA, optionally partially hydrolyzed, is injected in the form of an emulsion comprising a gel of PAA in mineral oil, the gel globules having a diameter of 0.5 to 5 mu m. The gel crosslinks in the presence of water and blocks those portions of a formation which have become waterlogged.
