Abstract

A gas fire comprises a gas conduit (14) having gas outlet apertures (20) therein and a tray (12) in which the conduit is mounted. An air inlet (42), Fig. 3 (not shown), to the conduit is located upstream of the apertures and outside the tray. A layer of coarse crushed rock (22) is provided in the tray and covers the gas conduit, and a layer (24) of vermiculite granules is provided on the rock layer. On the vermiculite layer are ceramic articles in the shape of wooden logs (28) and steel wool fibres (26). <IMAGE>
