Abstract

The invention relates to mineral compositions (e.g. of clay, diatomites, quartz sand, pozzuolana, trass, cement, fly ash, gypsum or lime). Components of the composition are simultaneously mixed and activated. 'Activation' in this context means creating stored energy in the mineral particles by subjecting them to shocks. In accordance with the invention, each particle is subjected to between 3 and 8 shocks or shock impulses in each period of between 10<-2> and 10<-3> seconds. Apparatus for carrying out the method is also disclosed, which may include a pinned disc mill or a vibratory ball mill. The product may be used for dry sealing and consolidation of floors and stone strata and the walls of boreholes, shafts and tunnels. In Example 2 a montmorillonite product is used in a composition to seal cores in embankments.
