Abstract
Radiation shielding material comprises a settable binder mixed with a lead or barium ore as an aggregate. Preferably a settable composition is provided which consists of a cementitious bonding material having an aggregate consisting entirely of galena, an insoluble ore of lead. The galena aggregate material contains particles forming a substantially continuously particle size spectrum over the range of particle sizes. The size distribution of the particles is such that the spectrum of sizes falls wholly within one of the National Standards (British Standard 882 zones 1, 2, 3 and 4, German Standard DIN 1045 and American Standard ASTMC 33) relating to the spectrum of particle sizes recommended for conventional aggregates in cementitious compositions. <IMAGE>
