Abstract
A method of making A-15 type intermetallic superconductors is disclosed. Nb or V rods are embedded in Cu matrices; annular layers of Sn or Ga, respectively separated from each other by Cu layers, are provided on the Cu matrices to form composites 23. The composites 23, are worked to intermediate size, cut to length, a number of lengths packed into a copper container 21, the container worked to a desired shape and size, and heat treated to diffuse the Sn or Gb throughout the copper and to form the compound Nb3Sn or V3Ga on the surface of the Nb or V. <IMAGE>
