Abstract

An organic substance, capable of polymerisation in the mesomorphic phase to form a solid polymer showing the anisotropic properties of a liquid crystal, and corresponding to the formula: <IMAGE> in which n = 0 or an integer from 1 to 10, is synthesised and then polymerised at the temperature of the mesophase, optionally in an electrical or magnetic field, so as to promote the orientation of the molecules of the substance to be polymerised. Application is to various electronic components (capacitors) or optical components or even electro-optical components (for aligning liquid crystal molecules).
