Abstract

Road vehicle tanks 10 comprise a barrel 12 having domed ends 14. The tank may have compartments or conventional transverse baffles; and has conventional connectors, hatches etc. When the tank is partly full, transverse surging of fluid, e.g. on cornering, is resisted by at least two longitudinal baffles 16 located one on each side of the longitudinal vertical plane 18, and typically on the horizontal diametral plane 20, of the barrel. Alternatively, or additionally, outer impact-energy-absorbing members 24 are positioned on either side of plane 18. Upper ends of members 24 carry, or act as, roll-over valences. Members 24 can include corrugated metal sheets. One construction comprises mutually-inclined corrugated sheets 56, 60 and interposed and outer plain sheets 58, 62, respectively. Edges of members 24 are sealed; or spaces between the sheets are filled with foamed plastics material (preferably thermally insulating). The ends 14 preferably have similar protective members 64. <IMAGE>
