Infusing-machines. - In a coffee-making machine of the type comprising a roaster which is automatically emptied as soon as the beans have lost a certain proportion of their weight, a grinder, and an infuser, the roaster is raised and emptied by means of a spring, the tension of which can be adjusted; improvements in the infuser are also described. The roaster is mounted on a spindle 6 driven by the gearing shown and mounted at one end in a bearing carried by a lever 15 attached to a helical spring in a casing 18. The tension of the spring can be regulated by means of a screwed cap on the casing 18. A spring pin 37 on the lever 15 enters a recess in the casing of the machine, from which it is withdrawn when the difference between the tension of the spring and the weight of the roaster reaches the desired value. The roaster then takes the position shown by the dotted lines and discharges the roasted beans to a grinder 12, whence they pass to an infusing-vessel 22 supported on screws 30 so as to be easily removed for cleaning. The roaster is heated by a lamp &c. 4 which also heats a boiler 3. From the boiler a pipe 23 leads to a strainer 29 at the bottom of the vessel 22. When the water boils the water is forced by steam pressure through the pipe 23 to the coffee; when the lamp is extinguished the steam condenses and the infusion is drawn back into the boiler, whence it can be drawn off by the tap 28. The boiler 3 may be used without the remainder of the apparatus by attaching to the tap 28 a receptacle for enclosing ground coffee.
