Abstract
A vaporisation device for a volatile active substance comprises a container having an imperforate bottom part (1) and a screw-on lid (2), with an active substance carrier (3) disposed in the container bottom part. The rim of the bottom part has a conically shaped sealing surface (5) co-operable, when the container is closed, with a similarly shaped sealing surface (6) on a stud (7) moulded on the lid (2). Apertures (4) in a depending flange of the lid permit the active substance to escape therethrough when the lid is rotated into the open position. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Vaporisation device for volatile active substances
The invention relates to a vaporisation device, for volatile active substances, such as fragrances, comprising a container, having a container bottom part with screw-on lid, and a fragrance carrier inserted in the container, wherein the lid has limited screw rotation and tightly closes the container in the one limit position, for which purpose the rim of one container component co-operates with a sealing surface on the other container component, so as to tightly close the container and in the other limit position of rotation the lid, which is then raised to free the rim and sealing surface and to expose apertures in the container to enable volatile active substances to escape through those apertures.
In a vaporisation device of this type, known from
U.S. Patent No.4,014,501, the rim region of the screw-on lid, which lid engages over the container bottom part, is constructed as a sealing surface, which engages tightly, when the container is closed, in an encircling channel arranged on the container bottom part close to its base. A plurality of relatively wide slits oriented parallel to the axis and open towards the free edge are also provided, arranged around the circumference and spaced apart, through which slits volatile active substances can escape when the screw-on lid has been rotated into the open position.
Brackets, which increase the material outlay, are moulded on the interior of the walls of the container bottom part at positions between the slits; they alone impart adequate rigidity of shape to the walls and serve as supports for the active substance carrier which is to be positively located in the container bottom part, so that the carrier is spaced from the base of the bottom parts and opposite the slits.
However, this results in the danger of the active substance carrier being touched, particularly by children's hands, which may be injurious if toxic active substances, e.g. insecticide, should be associated with the fragrance, because the active substance carrier is accessible in a straight line through the relatively large slits of the container bottom part when the screw-lid is in its position to open the container.
This also has the disadvantage that dust and/or condensates carried by the convection currents passing through the container slits can settle on the entire surface of the active substance carrier and may consequently impair, or prevent, the release of the active substance.
It is an object ofthe present invention to provide an improved vaporisation device, in which the above disadvantages are minimised or avoided and which may be closed so that it is air-tight.
According to the invention there is provided a vaporisation device for volatile active substances comprising a container having an imperforate bottom part, and a lid mounted thereon for limited relative screw movement, and a carrier for a volatile active substance received within the container, the container bottom part comprising a sealing surface at its rim co-operable, when the lid is at one limit of screw movement, with a sealing surface disposed on the lid, whereby, with the lid at said one limit, the container is tightly closed, and the lid comprising a flange portion encircling the container bottom part in which flange portion are disposed a plurality of apertures, whereby, with the lid rotated to its other limit position, the sealing surface on the lid is raised from the sealing surface on the bottom part and the volatile active substance can escape through the apertures in the lid.
This has the advantages that the active substance is now arranged in the container bottom part and protected from access and from dirt, and the need for brackets supporting the carrier avoided.
At the same time, high rigidity of shape of the device and air-tightness of the device are assured.
Preferably, a stud is moulded on the inner surface of the lid to project therefrom, the sealing surface on the lid being provided by the stud.
The stud may be adapted to engage within the rim of the container bottom part in a tightly sealing manner, and this may be achieved by the rim of the container bottom part and the stud on the lid being shaped as co-operable conical surfaces. The container is suitably made of plastics.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only, and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 shows an exploded view of a vaporisation device according to the invention seen from in front,
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the device of Figure 1 in the closed position partly in cross-section,
Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the same device but in the open position, and
Fig. 4 shows a top view of the device.
Referring to Figures 1 to 4 of the drawings, there is shown a vaporisation device for volatile active substances, such as fragrances, the device being intended particularly for use in motor vehicles. The device comprises a container, including a generally pot-shaped imperforate bottom part 1 and a screwon lid 2, and an active substance carrier 3, such as a cellulose pulp plate, replaceably disposed in the container bottom part. The bottom part 1 comprises a circular base and wall extending upwardly from the circumference of the base.
The lid 2 comprises a circular top portion with a circumferential flange portion depending downwardly therefrom. A plurality of apertures 4 are distributed uniformly around the circumference of the lid and are arranged in its flange portion, which is mountable, for limited screw movement, on the wall of the container bottom part 1.
The rim of the wall of the container bottom part 1 is tapered inwardly downwards as a conically convergent sealing surface 5 which contacts and tightly seals, when the container is closed (Figure 2), a correspondingly shaped sealing surface 6 of a circular stud 7 moulded internally on the lid 2. The apertures 4 extend up as far as the edge of the flange portion where it meets the circular portion of the lid 2, so that the apertures 4 are uncovered by the wall of the container bottom part 1 moving downwardly relative to the apertures 4 when the lid 2 is rotated into the open position.
In order to limit the rotation of the lid 2, its screw threads carry moulded stops, not shown, for cooperation with the screw thread of the container bottom part. The screw thread is constructed as a fourstart screw thread. A fixing element is provided on the lower side of the base of the container bottom part 1, the fixing element comprising a fixing plate 8 which is connected detachably to the container bottom part 1 by means of a plug-in connection of tongue and groove-like construction, the fixing plate 8 carrying an adhesive layer on its lower side.
