Abstract

Feeding articles from hoppers and shoots; pneumatic separating.-A method of selecting seeds of the type having lint or fuzz adhering, such as cotton seeds, consists in removing the greater part of the adhering lint, sieving the seeds according to size and feeding them one at a time in front of a jet of air under sufficient pressure to carry them varying distances according to specific gravity and the amount of lint still adhering. The apparatus described comprises a hopper A to which the seeds previously treated to remove superfluous lint and sorted by sieves according to size are supplied and from which they are fed one at a time by a rotating toothed wheel C, into a pipe F. A jet of air is supplied by a nozzle h making an angle of less than 90‹ with the pipe F and carries the seeds into receptacles I .. VI arranged in a casing M with openings J for releasing the air. The sorted seeds are discharged through openings K<1> . . K<6>.
