Abstract

15,842. Swaffer, E. C. July 2. Spray carburettors.-In cases in which two fuels are used and in which the engine may have to be stopped without much warning, leaving heavy fuel in the carburettor and its connexions, means are provided for withdrawing the fuel back to the tank so that light fuel may be substituted for restarting. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement suitable for a motor-cycle in which the light-fuel and heavy-fuel tanks D, E are connected by two cocks or a three-way cock to a common delivery pipe B to the carburettor. A pump K, connected with a vessel J creates a partial vacuum so that, on raising the needle-valve of the carburettor the fuel is sucked back into the tank. The cock L normally admits air to the tank but is closed during the process described above.
