3750. Turner, F. S., and White, C. Feb. 13. Wheel guards and obstruction-removers.- Guards for rail and road vehicles, of the kind comprising rollers which are positively rotated in a direction opposite to that of the vehicle wheels, are carried by resilient arms g from the axles, and, in the case of the steering- wheels, are mounted so as to move with the wheels. Idle rollers are fitted to the main rollers to prevent contact with the road. The front rollers d may be connected together by hinged bars forming a frame across the front of the vehicle; or they may be universally jointed to a two-part roller extending across the vehicle and rotating with the side rollers. The resilient arms g bear against rigid supports i and bring the rollers against the tyres. Each roller arm is fitted with an idle roller j which prevents the roller d from contacting with the ground. The rollers may normally be held away from the wheel tyres by the arms g.
