Abstract

6692. Shann, M. H. Churchill-. March'18. Combined-flow type. -A turbine, which may, with reversed flow, be used as a compressor, comprises a high-pressure chamber B with spaced nozzles C1, rotary blades C of the radialaxial type, fixed blades D, rotary axial-flow blades E, and fixed blades F delivering to the exhaust chamber A. The blades D, E, F are spaced as shown in Fig. 4, and the shrouds diverge as shown in Fig. 1 in order to give a predetermined centre line of flow. Packing-ribs are provided at E<1> and C<1>. The number of axial flow-wheels may be varied, and the steam may be introduced tangentially into the chamber B.
