Abstract
18,136. Edwards, A. E., [St. Louis Briquette Machine Co.]. Aug. 6. Endless-chain machines. -Relates to briquetting- machines of the type in which material is fed to moulds in an endless conveyer and is fed between two sets of rotatable plungers. The plungers 9<a>, 10<a> are mounted in heads 9, 10, mounted to rock within rotatable drums 7. 8, and are maintained vertical during their engagement with the moulds 11 by means of arms 9<b>, 10<b>, furnished with rollers engaging fixed cams 5, 6. Registration of the moulds and plungers during pressing and discharge is ensured by lugs 9<c>, 10<c>, on the heads 9, 10, engaging with recesses 11<a> i the moulds. The drums 7, 8 are mounted on axles 3, 4 passing through fixed bushings 5a, 6a. To prevent strain, the upper plunger supports are yieldinglymounted and are restrained by spring levers 20 bearing upon rollers 19, which bear against projections 5<b> on the hubs 5<a>. The cams 5 are guided, during yielding, by means of inclined plates 5<c> engaging rollers 26 mounted on the framework, so as to swing about the axle of the driving- gear 3<b> and thus maintain the gear 3<a> in driving engagement. As the moulds pass from the hopper 14 to the pressing position they rest upon a spring supporting-plate 18. The moulds are formed in plates 11 hinged together by pintles 11<b>carrying rollers which work in guides 13, 13<a> secured to the side frames 2.
