Abstract

56. Richards, A. Jan. 1. [Addition to 26,644/11.] Tin bromide, chloride, and oxide.-Volatile compounds of tin are obtained as a fume partly composed of tin chloride or bromide by replacing the sodium chloride used in the parent Specification by some other solid chlorine or bromine bearing substance, such as a chloride of calcium, potassium, magnesium, or barium, or calcium hypochlorite, or potassium chlorate or bromide, or a mixture of potassium bromide, with common salt. The reagent and the reducing- agent may be heated with the tin-bearing material, or one or both may be heated in a separate furnace and the volatilized product passed over the tin-bearing material. The reagent may be used in solution or fused. The fume may be collected, or the reaction may be conducted in a closed retort or furnace, the tin compounds being finally extracted with water.
