Abstract
27,606. Metzl, Z. Dec. 8. Dry processes of extracting tin.-Tin is obtained by reducing stannic oxide by means of metallic zinc. The process may be carried out in crucibles or in tubular, muffle, reverberatory, or shaft furnaces, the zinc being melted under exclusion of air or in a reducing-atmosphere, and the stannic oxide being introduced into the molten bath. The resulting zinc oxide is removed, and may be reduced by carbon and the zinc re-used. The tin may also be extracted by igniting a mixture of stannic oxide and metallic zinc in pulverulent form or in the form of shavings.
