Abstract

26,184. Stobie, V. Nov. 23. Open-hearth furnaces.-An ordinary electric steel-melting furnace is provided with means for heating by oil or illuminating-gas which do not require any considerable space for the development of the flame. The oil or gas is supplied through a suitable burner E, and is used for example for preparing the hearth. A neutral atmosphere may be maintained during the electric heating by supplying a small quantity of gas or oil.
