Abstract

25,925. James, R. W., [Ges. f³r Elektrotechnische Industrie]. Nov. 20. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Rolling; drawing; shearing.- Relates to a continuous process for the manufacture of sheet glass. Molten glass flows from a tank 1 by a simple orifice or siphon 29 down an incline 3 on to a travelling band 30 or large roller where it becomes spread out. The rough sheet thus produced passes between grooved rolls 33, and through are-heating chamber 20 to a pair of travelling bands 23 which move at a rather higher speed than the band 30. The sheet is thus stretched in the chamber 20 and any objectionable markings removed from the surface. The bands 23 are fitted with grippers 46, Fig. 6, and at intervals with knives 49 which cut off the sheet into lengths. These are delivered on to a carriage 24.
